What We Do

Our Mission

The mission of Classmates Literacy Foundation ("CLF") is to improve literacy outcomes for learners of all ages and backgrounds by providing teachers with structured literacy training in the SLANT System®.  SLANT System® for Structured Language Training is a research based, Orton-Gillingham, multi-sensory approach to reading instruction, which empowers educators with the knowledge to impact lives by providing students with the life-changing gift of literacy.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Classmates Literacy Foundation is dedicated to fostering a culture of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging which are integral to our mission of enhancing literacy outcomes for learners of all ages and backgrounds.   We recognize the importance of language equity in ensuring that all individuals have equitable access to literacy resources and opportunities and are committed to fostering an environment that embraces and celebrates our differences, promotes fairness, and recognizes the value of each individual's unique experiences and perspectives.  We acknowledge that racism continues to pervade our public education system, limiting access to quality education and resources to students of color. We aim to address these inequities by prioritizing training for teachers working with students living in poverty, students with disabilities, and students of color. Our intention is to empower these educators with the necessary support and resources to effectively meet the diverse needs of the learners they serve. We believe we can collectively create a stronger, more just society where every individual has the opportunity to develop their literacy skills and unlock their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstance.

“Teachers are the most important factor in student success. Informed teachers can explain language to students, including sounds, spellings, and word meanings that might be confusing. Research proves it. Science matters.”
